“The Allegory of the Cave” is an argument by Socrates that most people live their lives chained in cave and spend there time looking at illusions made by the people who are controlling them. In a way what Socrates goes to say about the cave and how it is described is true. Looking further at the actual allegory of the cave one prisoner is freed and goes on to explore a new life outside the cave. We can relate that to the media in today’s society. The people who live in the United States for example aren’t familiar with what goes on outside their caves, but with news reports about what goes on out side of the United States and the other life styles of others or other caves that people live in, we explore a different world.
Some of the illusions that one can say we Americans have to face on a daily basis can scale from the long educational study we all go through to working our daily jobs. Reasons why I would consider these aspects of the American way as an illusion set by people who are in control is because there is nothing that can be done to avoid dealing with these basic principles. Some can argue that the media frees us from our caves by showing us other parts of the world and distributing the knowledge from that place to ours. Although I think that the media freeing our minds from our cave is still a bit vague. In my opinion what they are doing is easing our minds from the thought that we might be in a cave, while the higher power that is in control is well aware.
In our society, the images being put on the wall can be traced back to being put there by the government. Very often members of the government lie to us to keep us satisfied through media to keep the people living in these caves content, which is the reason why I think that the media doesn’t necessary free our minds but just keep it at ease. What we believe we are seeing in our caves, are nothing more then illusions set up by our government.
In a movie like the Matrix, you get a good understanding of where we are today and how we are all run by a higher power. Although in the Matrix the issue isn’t the government, its robots that rule the people living in this fake world called the matrix. The Matrix its self is related to the allegory of the cave, where the real world outside of the matrix is a comparable to perhaps hundreds of years from now, but the people living in the matrix are accustomed to the same life styles that have been lived for many decades.
In conclusion, “The Allegory of a Cave” is a great way to view the way we live our lives today. Also the media may not be freeing our minds entirely, but do take restraint off our minds on what we should believe and what we shouldn’t believe because at times they don’t agree with the decisions that the government has to make and bash them as well. Lastly, we can expect that as time progresses the standards of our cave will increase and the illusions will have a higher meaning.

Allegory of the Cave
After reading “the Allegory of the Cave”, and watching the two short films. It makes me think if this place is real or not. If there is something more out there then what we see in our every day life, and what we see in our day are referred to as the images in the cave. If I was to say in what stage in life I think I’m in, I think I would be the example of the slave still locked up and in the cave viewing the images. I say that because I see myself doing things that someone else does. I’m following the same stream that society takes. Which is school, working, and being part of a family. I can’t picture a different life just for the simple fact that I’ve been raised with that mentality. Just like the slave in the cave and being raised with only knowing the images and not imaging that there is a whole different world out there. But if there was to be a different world, it would confuse me because I would not know which is real of the two, the one I came from or the one I’ve been introduce to.

The Truman Show
In the movie Truman Show, Jim Carry was the mean character which he was born and raised in a world were he believed it was true. Other reality shows television shows such as “The Bachelor”, “Survivor”, or the Real World are similar but not the same. The difference is that in the Truman show Jim didn’t know his hole life was broad on television while the other shows the characters in the shows volunteer and know they are being recorded. As well as the characters could leave the show when they choose to or when they violate a rule. There is also a major difference in the Truman show from others, is that the characters are not own by the Corp while Jim was adopted by one. The creator of the show Christof can be compared to god for Jim. Since he is the one that controlled his hole life since he was a baby. He gave him the life he knows and the family he was raised up and can easily take it away. He also controlled Jim’s environment with the weather and surroundings. When Truman finally discovers the truth about his reality and fights his way out. I believe he will find himself lost and not knowing what to do. Since in Seaheaven he was given a secure chance were in the real world he will have to deal with neglect and lost. I’m sure he will find his way to Silvia, and she will help him out and teach him about the real world which he haven’t seen.

My name is Francisco Infante which I preferred to be called Franklin or Frankie, I don’t like my name so which ever is good. I was born in Elmhurst hospital, on april 24 1989. I come from a Dominican back round. I’m more of a lay back person and the quit type, I don’t really like the being on the spot light much. I’ve lived in corona queens all my life and don’t see myself living some were else. I’m really into cars, I always have been since I was small. I actually own a 1986 Honda civic Si, which I’ve owned since I was a senior in high school and so far its been 3yr and now the car is put apart since I’m rebuilding it to be a race car but that’s another story. I’m not that into sports but the Mets are in the series I get into it the games. I work for a company called pay-o-matic, cashing checks and sending money. I have two sister and I’m the middle one. My older sister works for at&t in the city and my little sister goes to catholic school. As for now this is my second semester at laguardia and I’m taking liberal art as my major but thinking of changing to nursing as my new major but I’ll see what I get myself into.
